How KO Pilates grows with the Contrology Reformer
Since opening in 2023, KO Pilates has pursued the goal of building a studio that embodies the essence of classical Pilates. The aim is to provide customers with tools and techniques that change their bodies and movement sequences in a sustainable way. The studio started with two reformers, including a Contrology J. Grimes model. There are now four reformers in the studio - a sign of the aspiration to constantly expand the training experience with innovative equipment.
More body connection and functional movement
The Contrology Reformer has made a significant contribution to helping customers develop a deeper connection to their body and intensify their Pilates practice. The curved shoulder blocks are particularly noteworthy: They allow exercisers to flex their toes at the base and extend their heels stably into the blocks. This activates the entire posterior muscle chain - including the gluteal and lower abdominal muscles. The result is an integrated, effective workout that ideally supports functional movements and strength building.
One example of this is a customer with cerebral palsy. The 86-inch reformer and the matching jumpboard in particular were a turning point for her. The jumpboard provides her with the stability she needs to safely perform footwork and other exercises that improve her leg axes and train her strength and length. Despite the challenges posed by the inward rotation of her foot and ankle, she has made great progress. Today, she is able to assume a much straighter position in many exercises. This is an impressive demonstration of how flexibly the Reformer supports individual needs and enables positive changes.
Transformative developments thanks to the Contrology Reformer
One of the most inspiring stories in the studio is that of a customer who had previously spent a year lying in bed, suffering from depression and lack of exercise. When she happened to be in the studio and a conversation about Pilates came up, she wondered whether the training could help her. Without further ado, she arranged her first lesson. In this lesson, we used the Contrology Reformer to gently activate her muscles, bring her ankles back into flexion and promote mobility in her very stiff spine. The well thought-out design
of the Reformer provided exactly the support she needed. Over 14 months and more than 100 training sessions later, her progress is impressive. She has lost around 30 pounds (approx. 13.6 kg), achieved a full range of motion in her joints and can now keep her legs stable in the air under her own power thanks to a significantly strengthened powerhouse.
Her story shows how much is possible with patience, perseverance and the right training equipment. Such successes inspire our work at KO Pilates and encourage others to actively reclaim their bodies and their lives.
A design that promotes alignment and body feedback
Another major advantage of the Contrology Reformer is the high density of its carriage. It ensures that customers can perceive very precisely how their body is aligned when lying down. This allows them to immediately feel when their ribs and pelvis are in a neutral position, an essential factor for correct alignment and an effective Pilates practice. The unpadded foot bar also does valuable work: it helps exercisers to "work into the bar". Similar to reflexology, it promotes activation of the feet and conveys a direct body awareness. New customers or customers who have been inactive for a long time and often suffer from stiff ankles in particular benefit greatly from the foot bar and shoulder blocks in the long term.
A key to growth and change
The Contrology Reformer has become an indispensable element of KO Pilates. It helps clients to perceive their body in a new way, improve their functional strength and achieve personal goals. We are proud to accompany these developments and to offer our clients the best conditions for more strength, flexibility and a healthy, active life.
