About Balanced Body

Where precision, passion, and movement come together.

Balanced Body – 50 Years of Innovation in Pilates

For over 50 years, Balanced Body has shaped the development of modern Pilates equipment and has had a decisive influence on Reformer training. What began in the 1970s as a small initiative in California is now a leading global manufacturer. Over the decades, designs have been refined, materials improved, and training concepts continuously developed. This consistent evolution is evident in every detail and makes Balanced Body a benchmark in the industry today. Studios, trainers, and Pilates enthusiasts worldwide trust in the combination of innovation, quality, and experience that has defined the brand for decades.

How an idea became a movement

Ken Endelman, the founder and CEO of Balanced Body, began his professional career in 1976 as a designer and manufacturer of custom-made furniture in Hollywood. His keen eye for quality and craftsmanship continues to shape every piece of equipment to this day. The turning point came rather by chance. A client who taught Pilates asked him to develop a better version of a Reformer. At that point, Ken had never heard of Pilates—but that was precisely what piqued his curiosity. He began to delve deeply into Joseph Pilates’ original concepts and sought input from trainers to specifically improve functionality and application. What emerged was not just a new Reformer, but the beginning of a new professional direction. In the years that followed—particularly in the 1980s—Ken continued to refine the equipment and worked closely with influential figures in the Pilates world such as Ron Fletcher, Eve Gentry, Carola Trier, and Kathy Grant. This approach continues to shape Balanced Body to this day: the consistent refinement of movement—with the goal of making it better, safer, and accessible to more people. From the first pieces of equipment in the 1970s to today’s Reformer systems, this vision runs through the entire history of the company.

Pioneering work in Reformer training

Reformer training has become an indispensable part of modern Pilates studios. Balanced Body has continuously refined this piece of equipment, so that today it:

  • offers the highest level of biomechanical precision
  • is customizable for beginners and professionals alike
  • is built to be durable and sturdy
  • appears well-thought-out and timeless in design

The result is exercise equipment that performs exceptionally well both in professional gym settings and for high-end home workouts.

Quality that makes all the difference

Balanced Body is about more than just high-performance equipment. Every detail is carefully designed to ensure long-term benefits, safety, and the highest quality of training.

All equipment is also certified as medical devices, further underscoring the high standards of safety, quality, and therapeutic effectiveness. In addition, Balanced Body holds numerous patents in the field of Pilates equipment development, demonstrating the brand’s ongoing commitment to innovation and its position as a technological leader.

Second-generation teachers—who learned their craft directly from Joseph Pilates within the original Pilates tradition—were involved in the design and further development of the equipment. In this way, Balanced Body combines modern engineering with the traditional Pilates legacy.

Balanced Body Reformer machines are distinguished by:

  • ergonomic design for optimal movement guidance
  • Maximum safety during training
  • Sturdy construction for years of use
  • Aesthetic integration into modern spaces

This combination makes all the difference—especially for gyms that want to offer their clients workouts of the highest quality.

Sustainability and Responsibility

In addition to quality and innovation, Balanced Body is Balanced Body committed to sustainable production. The company is currently expanding its solar capacity by installing 1,181 additional solar panels. Together with the existing system, this will bring total capacity to 1.1 MW. Once completed, the facility will rank among the 100 largest privately operated commercial solar installations in California and among the 15 largest of its kind in the U.S. This underscores Balanced Body not only to producing high-quality training equipment but also to managing the environment and resources responsibly.

Balanced Body sees itself not only as a manufacturer of equipment, but also as an active member of the international Pilates community.
